Welcome to Source Aquatics, and thank you for taking the time to explore our website. We are proudly a Canadian company and support local businesses and initiatives whenever possible. As lifelong fish keepers and breeders—both personally and professionally—our team has spent more than 35 years dedicated to learning about fish, aquariums, and everything related to the aquatic hobby.

We believe in continuous education and have collectively earned three majors and two minors at the university level. In support of global conservation efforts, we actively participate in the CARES Fish Preservation Program. This initiative focuses on protecting threatened species through responsible breeding. Hobbyists involved in the program commit personal tank space to help preserve at-risk species for future generations. Source Aquatics is also a recognized retailer through the Alberta Invasive Species Program. Invasive species—non-native organisms introduced into local ecosystems—pose a serious threat to biodiversity.

As part of this program, we ensure that accurate, accessible information is available to help the public understand the dangers of releasing invasive species into the wild. Through education and awareness, we hope to play a role in protecting native flora and fauna so they may continue to thrive. We aim to prevent the ecological impacts seen in past introductions, such as the Nile Perch to Lake Victoria in 1954, Asian Carp to the Great Lakes in the 1960s, European Frogbit to Ottawa’s Rideau Canal in 1939, and the widespread release of goldfish in waterways around the world.

Fish keeping is about both enjoyment and responsibility—responsibility as a pet owner, responsibility to the environment, and responsibility to the generations that will follow. Every aquatic species that we have, is our pet and treated as such, until we find them a new home.
